French Art Nouveau painter, sculptor and illustrator Théophile Alexandre Steinlen (1859 – 1923) produced hundreds of illustrations during his lifetime, most notably images of cats that he had great affection for. His most famous works are a series of posters for Le Chat Noir nightclub in Paris during the 'poster craze' of the late 1890s early 1900s.
