Following the loss of the White Star liner Titanic in April 1912, all the existing posters over-printed with Titanic’s name were recalled from their agents and destroyed. A new painting of Olympic, Titanic’s older sister, was commissioned from marine artist Montague Birrell Black. The Liverpool Printing & Stationary Company set about quickly producing replacement artwork this time featuring all the routes across the North Atlantic operated by the company and a giant star symbol, a design theme that was used for many years on various posters including the covers of passenger lists and the company’s own in-house magazine.
